A complete tool set for cutting internal and external metric threads. It covers 34 thread sizes from M2 to M18 with a range of pitches, including fine and coarse options, together with a full complement of die holders and tap wrenches.
The set includes dies for external threads, plug and taper taps for internal threads, and a full set of die holders and tap wrenches. It removes the need to buy additional accessories for standard metalworking jobs.
Most sizes are available with both coarse threads (e.g. M8 x 1.25mm) and fine threads (M8 x 1.0mm, M8 x 0.75mm). This allows work to the different standards used in automotive, hydraulic and precision engineering applications.
Taper taps make it easier to start cutting and keep the tool aligned, particularly in hard-to-reach places. Plug taps allow the thread to be finished right to the bottom of a blind hole.
Three tap wrenches with different ranges, plus a reversible ratchet model, speed up work and reduce fatigue when cutting many threads. The ratchet allows cutting without having to remove the tool.

Tools for cutting external threads on rods, bolts and shafts:
Used for cutting or re-cutting internal threads right to the bottom of a blind hole. They have a shorter working section than taper taps.
They make it easier to start a thread thanks to their gradual lead-in. Used first when cutting new threads or in through holes.
Coarse threads (e.g. M8 x 1.25mm) are the standard in most structural applications. Fine threads (e.g. M8 x 1.0mm or M8 x 0.75mm) are used where greater pull-out strength, better sealing or threading in thin walls is required. They are common in automotive applications (e.g. in aluminium cylinder heads) and high-pressure hydraulics.
Before cutting a thread, a hole must be drilled to the core diameter of the thread. For M8 x 1.25mm this is a 6.8mm drill bit, and for M10 x 1.5mm an 8.5mm bit. Exact diameters are given in standard reference tables, or they can be calculated using the formula: nominal diameter minus thread pitch.
When cutting internal threads, turn half a revolution forwards, then a quarter of a revolution backwards to break the swarf. Using a cutting fluid (machine oil, emulsion) makes cutting significantly easier and extends tool life. For hard materials or deep threads, it is worth starting with the taper tap and finishing with the plug tap.
Store the tools in a dry place, protected from moisture.
