Features of the VOREL 25570 chisels

Hardened HCS blades

High-quality high carbon steel (High Carbon Steel) that has been hardened gives a long-lasting cutting edge. The material resists mechanical wear, which allows the blade to be sharpened repeatedly without losing its working properties. Hardening increases the hardness of the blade, enabling precise cutting of both softwoods and harder species.

Beech wood handles

Beech handles provide a natural, secure grip and absorb vibration during work. Beech wood has suitable hardness and a fibrous structure, which translates into durable handles. The ergonomic shape minimises hand fatigue during prolonged hand work.

Protective metal ferrules

The ends of the handles are fitted with protective metal rings that prevent the wood from splitting when struck with a mallet or hammer. The ferrules spread the force of the blow across the whole face of the handle end, extending the life of the tool. This is an essential feature for intensive work requiring force.

Set of 12 different profiles

The set contains chisels with a range of blade widths and shapes, making it possible to carry out the full range of carving and joinery work. The variety of profiles allows details, hollows and grooves to be created and flat surfaces to be worked without having to buy additional tools.

Use and maintenance of the chisels

Preparing for work

The sharpness of the blades should be checked before first use. New chisels usually need honing on a whetstone or fine-grit abrasive paper. A correctly sharpened chisel should cut through wood fibres without excessive pressure. Test cuts on a piece of scrap material are recommended in order to assess the condition of the cutting edge.

Working technique

When cutting by hand, guide the chisel along the direction of the wood grain to avoid tearing the material. When using a mallet or hammer, blows should be controlled and even. For precision work, secure the workpiece in a vice or on a stable base. The chisels can be used both for push cutting and for striking.

Sharpening and maintenance

Regular sharpening on water or oil stones with grits from 1000 to 6000 keeps the blades in optimum condition. The sharpening process should preserve the original bevel angle of the blade (usually 20–30 degrees). After work, clean the blades of shavings and protect them with a thin layer of protective oil. Storing them in a dry place prevents corrosion of the carbon steel.
