A hex socket with a 1/4-inch drive and a 12 mm socket size, made from chrome vanadium steel. Designed for use with 1/4-inch ratchets, spinner handles and extension bars.
The 1/4" (6.35 mm) standard refers to the size of the square drive, which works with ratchets and spinner handles of the same size. It is the smallest of the standard drive sizes, used for precision work at low torque (typically up to 40 Nm). It performs well in confined spaces and on small fasteners.
The 12 mm marking refers to the size of the socket's hex opening, which must match the size of the bolt head or nut. Before buying, check that the fasteners require this particular size – the measurement can be taken with a vernier calliper or by checking the technical documentation of the equipment.
A steel alloy with added chromium and vanadium is characterised by increased hardness, wear resistance and flexibility. Chromium increases corrosion resistance, while vanadium improves mechanical strength. This material gives the tool durability under repeated use and dynamic loads.

The socket works with all tools that have a 1/4-inch square drive: ratchets, spinner handles, torque screwdrivers, extension bars and universal joints. Before use, check that the torque range of the driving tool matches the requirements of the bolted joint in question – for a 1/4" drive, typically up to 40 Nm.
Before first use, check that the socket sits correctly on the drive of the tool – you should feel resistance when fitting it, and the connection should be secure with no play. During work, fit the socket onto the fastener perpendicular to the axis of the bolt to avoid misalignment and damage to the profile.
After each use, clean the socket of dirt, oil and dust with a brush or compressed air. In workshop conditions, it is worth periodically applying a thin layer of a corrosion inhibitor, especially where there is contact with moisture or chemicals. Storing it in an organiser or tool box protects it from mechanical damage and loss.
Most YATO sockets have the size (12 mm) permanently engraved or stamped on the outer surface of the body. This makes it easy to identify the tool quickly in a set and eliminates mistakes during work. It is advisable to check the legibility of the markings periodically and to restore them if they become worn.
