A hex socket with a 1/4 inch drive, designed for mechanical, workshop and automotive work. Made from CRV 50BV30 chrome vanadium steel, hardened to HRC 43-47.
The chromium and vanadium alloy gives increased resistance to abrasion and deformation. CRV material offers higher mechanical strength than standard tool steel, which translates into a longer service life for the socket under intensive use.
The Rockwell hardness range balances strength and flexibility. Values below HRC 43 could lead to deformation, while above HRC 47 the risk of cracking under load would increase.
A standard drive size compatible with 1/4" ratchets, speed braces and extension bars. This system allows sockets to be changed quickly without additional tools, speeding up work in the workshop.
A combination of polished and sandblasted areas with a knurled ring at the centre of the body makes the size easier to identify and provides better grip when fitting or removing the socket from the ratchet by hand.

The socket works with all tools that have a 1/4 inch square drive: ratchets, speed braces, torque wrenches, extension bars and universal joints. Before buying, make sure your tools have a 1/4" drive and not a larger 3/8" or 1/2" one.
Hex sockets require basic maintenance to stay fully functional. Once the job is done, remove any dirt and residual oil or grease. Periodically greasing the square drive prevents corrosion and makes the socket easier to fit onto the ratchet.
Always select the socket to match the size of the bolt or nut exactly. Using the wrong size socket damages the edges of the hexagon and rounds off the corners of the bolt head, making it impossible to undo.
When undoing badly seized fastenings, use a penetrating oil and avoid excessive force, which can exceed the strength of the socket or ratchet material.
