How to choose the right nut size
The "M" designation gives the outside diameter of the thread in millimetres. An M6 nut fits a bolt or stud with a 6 mm metric thread. Before fitting, check the thread diameter with a test bolt or thread gauge. The nut should turn on by hand without excessive resistance for at least a few turns.
Fitting dome nuts
Dome nuts are fitted with standard open-ended spanners or sockets. When tightening, use the correct torque so the thread is not damaged. When fitting to delicate surfaces, it is worth using washers. Dome nuts should not be used where frequent dismantling is required, as the dome can restrict access to the end of the bolt.
