Cordless sharpener for petrol and electric chainsaw chains, powered by 18V. The tool allows precise sharpening of cutting teeth directly in the field or workshop, eliminating the need to remove the chain. Model YT-84980 includes a 2Ah lithium-ion battery.
The 18V lithium-ion system provides mobility when working in the field — in the forest, at the sawmill or on a building site. The 2Ah battery is enough to sharpen over a dozen chains on a single charge. Compatibility with the YATO 18V platform means you can use batteries from other tools in the range.
The high motor speed allows efficient grinding of hard cutters made of chrome steel. This parameter determines the time needed to sharpen a single tooth — the higher the speed, the faster the process, while precision is maintained.
The adjustment range from -35° to +35° lets you match the sharpening geometry to different chain types. Hardwood chains require different angles from those used for softwood. The metal guide ensures a repeatable angle setting.
The 108 mm outer diameter and 23 mm bore match standard chainsaw sharpening wheels. The 3.2 mm thickness ensures stability during use and a long wheel life. These parameters determine compatibility with different chain pitches.

Before first use, charge the battery as described in the charger instructions. Check the condition of the grinding wheel — it should be free from cracks and damage. Fit the wheel on the spindle, making sure the direction of rotation matches the marking on the wheel. Set the sharpening angle according to the chain manufacturer's requirements (typically 25-35° for standard chains).
Place the chain tooth in the sharpener's guide, matching the angle to the geometry of the cutter. Bring the wheel to the tooth surface and make 2-3 short passes, removing a layer of steel approximately 0.1-0.2 mm thick. Repeat the operation for each tooth, keeping the same number of passes for all cutters. Regularly check the depth gauges — they should sit 0.6-0.8 mm lower than the cutting edge.
After use, remove debris from the guide and housing with compressed air or a brush. Check the grinding wheel for wear — replace it when the diameter has decreased by more than 10 mm. Store the battery at 10-25°C with a charge level of around 40-60% to extend cell life. Before a longer break in use, charge the battery to half capacity.
