An electric bench-mounted sharpener designed for precise sharpening of petrol and electric chainsaw chains. Fitted with an 85 W motor and a 108 mm grinding wheel, the unit allows the sharpening angle to be adjusted between 0° and 35°, so the settings can be matched to different types of saw chain.
The ability to set the sharpening angle precisely lets you match the settings to the chain manufacturer's specification. Standard chains are sharpened at 25-35°, chains for hardwood require a smaller angle and those for softwood a larger one. This adjustment makes it possible to preserve the original cutter geometry.
The high speed of the grinding wheel ensures smooth and efficient material removal without overheating the chain cutters. This speed is optimal for 108 mm wheels – a lower speed would lengthen the sharpening process, while a higher one would cause the steel to heat up excessively.
The unit can be adjusted to suit different chain pitches (the distance between the links). The most common are 3/8" and 0.325" – checking the pitch before sharpening is essential, as it affects the setting of the guide and the correct positioning of the cutter against the wheel.
The metal guide ensures a consistent sharpening angle for every cutter on the chain. The rotating plastic base allows the position to be changed quickly without having to move the whole unit, which speeds up work when sharpening a complete chain.

Before starting work, check the chain pitch (usually marked on the saw bar) and set the correct sharpening angle in line with the chain manufacturer's recommendations. The chain should be cleaned of dirt – sand and soil accelerate grinding wheel wear. It is worth marking the first cutter with a marker pen so that the same cutter is not sharpened twice.
The 108 x 23 x 3.2 mm wheel needs replacing when its diameter has decreased by around 10 mm or when the edges show signs of damage. A worn wheel results in longer sharpening and overheating of the cutters. When replacing it, make sure the new wheel is intended for chain sharpening (with a grit suitable for tool steel).
After sharpening the cutters several times, check the height of the depth gauges (the parts in front of each cutter). If the height difference between the cutter and the depth gauge is too small, the chain will not cut efficiently. Depth gauges are sharpened with a flat file, maintaining the correct clearance (usually 0.5-0.7 mm below the tip of the cutter).
