Ring spanner with a 72-tooth ratchet mechanism, made from CrV steel. The offset head design allows work in confined assembly spaces, removing the need to lift the spanner off the fastener after every turn.
72 teeth give a 5-degree working arc – the minimum sweep required to move the pawl onto the next tooth. This allows work in places where a full turn of the spanner is impossible, for example on bolts close to a wall or other structural components.
An alloy steel with added chromium and vanadium, which increases resistance to wear and distortion. A hardness of 42-48 HRC provides the right strength while retaining flexibility, minimising the risk of cracking under heavy loads.
The ring head is set at an angle to the handle, which increases clearance between the hand and the working surface. A practical solution when tightening fasteners fitted close to flat surfaces, where a standard straight spanner limits freedom of movement.
A lever for changing the ratchet direction – forward/reverse – allows fast switching between tightening and loosening without removing the spanner from the fastener. The mechanism locks movement in the selected direction.

A 21 mm spanner fits metric M14 bolts and nuts (21 mm across flats). Before buying, verify the dimension with a vernier calliper or an adjustable spanner – the measurement is the distance between the parallel flats, not the thread diameter.
The ratchet mechanism requires periodic lubrication with lithium grease or tool oil. A lack of maintenance leads to pawl wear and reduced precision. After working in a damp environment or in contact with chemicals, clean the spanner and protect it against corrosion.
A ratchet ring spanner is not a substitute for a torque wrench when tightening to a specified torque. Using extensions or pipes to increase leverage can damage the ratchet mechanism. For seized fasteners, a fixed spanner without a mechanism is recommended.
The Rockwell C scale (HRC) defines steel hardness. A range of 42-48 HRC indicates heat-treated steel – hardened and tempered. Values below 40 HRC indicate steel that is too soft and prone to distortion. Above 52 HRC the steel becomes brittle and may crack under load.
