90mm Wood Rasp Cutter YT-59175 YATO

The YATO 90mm rasp cutter is designed for routing grooves in wood, primarily for electrical installations, and for edge finishing. Its design allows grooves of controlled depth to be cut in wood-based materials.

Features of the rasp cutter

90mm diameter — range of applications

The 90mm diameter determines the width of the groove produced. This size allows grooves suitable for standard electrical cables and low-voltage installations to be routed. The larger diameter makes it possible to cut a wider groove in a single pass than with smaller cutters.

Routing installation grooves

The main application is cutting grooves for electrical cables in timber walls, beams and structural elements. The cutter allows controlled penetration into the material, so the groove depth can be set precisely in line with installation requirements.

Edge finishing on wood

The rasp cutter is used for breaking and chamfering the edges of timber components. This removes sharp edges, improves safety in use and enhances the quality of the finish. Suitable for joinery work where components need to be fitted together.

Tool compatibility

The cutter is compatible with hand routers and stationary machines fitted with a suitable mounting shank. Before buying, check that the cutter's shank diameter matches the collet in your tool, and check the router motor power — a 90mm diameter cutter requires sufficient rotational power.

Applications of the 90mm rasp cutter

  • Cutting grooves for electrical cables in timber walls and beams
  • Routing grooves for low-voltage installations — internet, television, door entry systems
  • Breaking and chamfering the edges of joinery components
  • Fitting timber components in building structures
  • Surface preparation of wood when renovating old components
  • Cutting grooves for ironmongery and hinges in architectural joinery
  • Finishing work in timber-framed houses
  • Routing decorative grooves in timber panels

Checking compatibility with your router

Before fitting the cutter, check the shank diameter and the collet size of your router. Make sure the router motor power is sufficient for a 90mm diameter cutter — too little power can lead to motor overheating and an inconsistent finish. Check the router's manual for the maximum permitted cutter diameter.

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, fit the cutter correctly in the router collet and make sure it is seated securely. When routing, guide the tool along a marked line or guide rail to keep the groove straight. Adjust the feed rate to the hardness of the wood — feeding too fast can tear out the grain, while feeding too slowly can scorch the material.

After use, clean the cutter of wood dust and resin with a brush or compressed air. Regular maintenance includes checking the cutting edge for mechanical damage and keeping the cutting edges properly sharp. A blunt edge increases resistance during routing and reduces the quality of the surface finish.

Safety when routing

Wear eye protection against flying chips and a dust mask when working with the rasp cutter. The workpiece should be clamped securely. Do not touch the rotating cutter or change settings while the tool is running. Disconnect the router from the mains before changing the cutter.
