YATO YT-29060 Broken Thread Extractor - 1/2" and 3/4" extractor

A specialised tool for removing damaged, seized and broken threads in 1/2" and 3/4" pipes. Its #45 carbon steel construction with a 21.5 mm hexagonal shank ensures stable torque transmission during removal.

Thread sizes1/2" and 3/4"
Material#45 carbon steel
Hardness40-45 HRC
Length100 mm

Thread extractor features

#45 carbon steel with hexagonal shank

Grade 45 steel contains approx. 0.45% carbon, which provides adequate mechanical strength. The hexagonal 21.5 mm shank profile ensures a secure fit in the spanner and efficient transmission of high torque without slipping.

40-45 HRC hardness

The Rockwell hardness range provides a balance between wear resistance and adequate flexibility. The tool does not crumble under heavy load, which is important when removing heavily seized components.

7 mm centre hole with auxiliary bar

The centre hole allows the supplied 6.5 mm bar to be inserted, which acts as a lever to increase removal force. A useful solution for threads requiring greater torque than a standard spanner can generate.

Black oxide surface finish

The blackening (oxidising) process creates a protective layer of iron oxide on the steel surface. It protects the tool from corrosion in a workshop environment, where moisture and contact with various substances occur.

Applications of the thread extractor

  • Removing broken threads in plumbing systems
  • Removing seized components in heating systems
  • Extracting damaged threads in gas installations
  • Maintenance of industrial machinery with 1/2" and 3/4" pipe connections
  • Servicing hydraulic equipment
  • Renovation work when replacing old installations
  • Repairing corroded connections in older buildings
  • Removing components in mechanical workshops

How to use

Preparation

Before starting work, check the size of the thread to be removed (1/2" or 3/4"). The extractor is inserted into the damaged thread with the appropriate end. The hexagonal shank is secured in a socket or open-ended spanner with the appropriate jaw width.

Removal technique

The tool is turned anticlockwise. For stubborn threads, the auxiliary bar can be used by inserting it through the 7 mm centre hole. The bar acts as a lever, making it possible to generate greater torque.

Maintenance

After finishing work, clean the tool of dirt and remnants of gasket or rust. The black oxide finish should be periodically protected with a thin layer of oil, particularly when stored in a damp environment. Avoid striking the extractor body directly with a hammer.

Compatibility with pipe systems

The extractor handles the two most common sizes of pipe thread used in plumbing installations. 1/2" thread (15 mm nominal diameter) is found in domestic installations, tap connections and sanitary fittings. 3/4" thread (20 mm nominal diameter) is standard in manifolds, heating valves and main installation runs.

Before use, it is worth checking whether the damaged component actually has an imperial thread rather than a metric one. The difference lies in the thread angle and the way they are designated – imperial threads are designated in inches (e.g. 1/2"), metric ones in millimetres (e.g. M12).
