Metal drill bit made from M35 high-speed steel with 5% cobalt, compliant with DIN 338. Designed for machining carbon and stainless steels as well as alloys of increased hardness.
The 5% cobalt content increases hardness and resistance to the high temperatures generated during drilling. The drill bit keeps its cutting edges sharp even under demanding conditions, which translates into a longer tool life.
The two-stage 125° grind allows drilling to begin without centre-punching the surface first. This point angle provides stability during pilot drilling and reduces the thrust forces acting on the tool.
Precision grinding of the flutes ensures efficient swarf evacuation from the hole. The smooth flute surface reduces friction and makes swarf removal easier, which is particularly important when drilling deep holes.
The drill bit meets the requirements of DIN 338 for straight-shank twist drills for metal. This guarantees dimensional consistency, diameter tolerances and compatibility with standard drill chucks.

HSS (high-speed steel) is a steel that retains its hardness at elevated temperatures. The M35 designation indicates a specific alloy composition with 5% cobalt (CO), which increases resistance to abrasion and heat. Cobalt drill bits withstand working temperatures 100-150°C higher than standard HSS.
Before starting work, make sure the drill bit is securely clamped in the drill chuck. When drilling, use the correct speed – for a 3 mm diameter in structural steel the optimum speed is approximately 1,500-2,000 rpm. When drilling hard materials, the use of a coolant or lubricant is recommended, as it extends the service life of the tool.
After use, clean the drill bit of swarf and material residue. Storing it in a dry place, in the original packaging or a dedicated case, prevents damage to the cutting edges. Checking the condition of the cutting edge regularly allows wear to be detected early – a blunt drill bit can be sharpened with a specialist drill sharpener.
