The cold chisel is an impact tool designed for splitting, cutting and marking metal components. The YT-47148 has a flattened blade with a milled cutting edge made from CrV6150 tool steel.
A chromium-vanadium alloy offering increased hardness and wear resistance. The chromium content improves corrosion resistance, while the vanadium is responsible for the fine-grain structure and flexibility of the material, which reduces the risk of cracking under impact loads.
Milling produces a consistent sharpening angle and a smooth edge surface. The result is precise cutting without chipping the material, along with the ability to re-sharpen the tool repeatedly without losing its geometry.
The 9.4 mm hexagonal section stops the tool rotating in the hand during use. The flat surfaces increase the contact area with the hand, giving better control of the striking direction and reducing hand fatigue.
The black oxidising process forms a protective layer on the surface of the steel. It guards against atmospheric corrosion during storage and use, extending the tool's service life in an engineering workshop environment.

Position the chisel at an angle of 30-45 degrees to the surface being worked. Strikes with a 300-500 g hammer should be even and controlled. Excessive striking force can chip the cutting edge or distort the shank. After each use, check the condition of the blade and re-sharpen it if necessary.
After work, clean the chisel of swarf and dirt. It is worth protecting the working surface with a thin layer of machine oil. Storing the tool in a dry place prevents corrosion. Regularly checking the condition of the cutting edge and shank helps to spot damage before it worsens.
