The 23 mm combination spanner is a basic workshop tool that combines the functions of an open-end and a ring spanner in a single body. Model YT-00568 from YATO is made from chrome vanadium steel, which provides resistance to deformation when working with heavily tightened joints.
The spanner combines an open end and a ring end of the same 23 mm size. The open end allows work in confined spaces where a full 360° turn is not possible. The ring end distributes force more evenly across all the corners of the nut, minimising the risk of damaging them.
CrV material offers greater hardness and wear resistance than ordinary tool steel. The addition of vanadium improves tensile strength, which matters at the high torques involved in loosening rusted joints.
The inside of the ring has a 12-point or 6-point geometry that increases the contact area with the nut. This means a smaller turning angle is needed to reposition the spanner, which makes work easier in areas with limited access.
The 23 mm size corresponds to standard M14 nuts and bolts used in hydraulic and pneumatic installations and in vehicle suspension components. It is one of the more commonly used sizes in mechanical workshops and assembly work.

Before use, make sure the 23 mm spanner matches the size of the nut or bolt. Using the wrong size damages the corners of the fastener and makes it harder to remove later. If in doubt, use a vernier caliper to measure the width across the flats of the nut.
The spanner should be fitted so that it makes full contact with the surface of the nut. When tightening, apply force in a direction away from yourself, which prevents injury if the tool slips. Never extend the spanner handle with a pipe, as this exceeds the permissible torque and may cause the tool to crack.
After use, clean the spanner of dirt and oil residue. Storing it in a dry place prevents surface corrosion. It is worth checking the condition of the spanner jaws periodically – visible signs of wear or deformation are a signal to replace the tool with a new one.
