A professional tool for the mechanical removal of concrete, roofing felt, floor coverings and other materials from horizontal surfaces. Fitted with a replaceable 65Mn spring steel blade and a long 1300 mm steel handle that ensures an ergonomic working position without excessive bending.
The blade is made from high-carbon spring steel (0.62-0.70% C) with added manganese. The material is characterised by increased wear resistance and the ability to flex repeatedly without cracking. The 0.9 mm thickness provides adequate rigidity while retaining the flexibility of the working edge.
The blade mounting system allows the blade to be replaced once the cutting edge has become blunt or damaged. This reduces running costs – instead of replacing the whole tool, only the working part needs to be fitted. This is particularly important during intensive use on concreting work.
The handle length has been chosen for ergonomic working when removing materials from floors. It allows the tool to be operated in an upright position, reducing the load on the lower back. The steel construction provides the rigidity needed to transmit force when scraping hard materials.
A 75 mm wide blade is a compromise between surface coverage and the downward force required. Wider blades speed up work on large surfaces but demand more effort. The 75 mm size is optimal for most construction and renovation applications.

The designation 65Mn refers to spring steel with a carbon content of 0.62-0.70% and a manganese content of 0.90-1.20%. Manganese increases hardenability and wear resistance, which makes this material suitable for the production of hand tool blades. After heat treatment it reaches a hardness of 42-50 HRC while retaining its springiness – the blade flexes under load instead of cracking.
Before starting work, check that the blade is securely mounted – play in the joint reduces scraping efficiency and accelerates wear. When removing concrete, the blade should be held at an angle of 20-30 degrees to the surface – a shallower angle makes it harder to get under the material, while a steeper angle increases resistance and blunts the edge more quickly.
After finishing work, clean the blade of any material residue – dried concrete or adhesive makes subsequent use more difficult. It is worth checking the working edge periodically for nicks and deformation. 65Mn steel can be sharpened on a grinding wheel or with a file, maintaining the original sharpening angle of around 20-25 degrees.
The steel handle should be stored in dry conditions – corrosion weakens the structure and can lead to breakage during use. If rust appears, the surface can be cleaned with a wire brush and protected with a thin layer of machine oil.
Blade replacement becomes necessary when the working edge is blunt over more than 30% of its width, when there are deep nicks or cracks, or when the blade has become permanently deformed. Working with a blunt blade requires more effort and increases the risk of the tool slipping, which can lead to injury.
