A step drill bit for confirmat screws with a three-step design, intended for drilling holes for furniture screws in wood and wood-based materials. Made from #45 carbon steel with an 8 mm straight shank.
Features of the confirmat drill bit
Three-step drill bit design
The drill bit cuts three different hole diameters in a single operation: a 7 mm through hole, a counterbore for the confirmat head and a pilot hole. It removes the need to change tools during the job, cutting furniture assembly time by as much as 60%.
#45 carbon steel
The material of the drill bit has a carbon content of 0.42-0.50%, which provides a balance between hardness and resistance to breakage. The bit keeps its cutting edges sharp when drilling chipboard, MDF and solid wood.
8 mm straight shank
The standard shank diameter fits most hand drills and cordless drill drivers with a keyless chuck. The straight shank ensures a secure hold and minimises radial runout during drilling.
Compatible with 7-10 mm confirmat screws
The drill bit dimensions match standard 7 mm diameter confirmat furniture screws with a length of 40 to 70 mm. The hole allows the confirmat to be driven in freely without any risk of splitting the material.

Use and maintenance
Preparation before use
Before you start drilling, mark the hole positions to match the confirmat layout. The material must be secured firmly – loose boards can chip at the edges of the hole. Fit the drill bit in the drill chuck and tighten the jaws until fully clamped.
Drilling parameters
For chipboard and MDF, a speed of 1500-2500 rpm is recommended. Too high a speed can scorch the edges of the hole, particularly in laminated boards. Drill perpendicular to the surface of the material, applying even pressure without forcing the tool.
Drill bit maintenance
After use, clean the drill bit of chips and dust with a brush or compressed air. Checking the cutting edges periodically for sharpness helps detect wear – a blunt bit leaves ragged edges on the hole and needs more pressure. Storing in a dry place prevents the steel from corroding.
