Crocodile-Type Welding Clamp ZKB-70 74421 VOREL

Crocodile-type welding clamp for securing the earth lead or electrode in welding machines. Designed for welding circuits with a current of up to 315 A, with a jaw opening of up to 60 mm.

Welding clamp features

315 A electrical rating

The maximum welding current of 315 A defines the permissible load of the clamp in the welding circuit. This value indicates that the clamp is suitable for transformer and inverter welding machines with an output of up to approximately 7–8 kW. Exceeding this rating may lead to overheating of the contacts and damage to the clamp.

Jaw opening up to 60 mm

The maximum jaw opening of 60 mm determines the thickness of the components that can be clamped directly. This parameter allows attachment to sheet metal, steel sections, pipes or structural components with a cross-section of up to 60 mm. Wider components require the use of an intermediate lead.

70 mm² cable cross-section

The clamp is designed for welding cables with a cross-section of up to 70 mm². A larger cable cross-section reduces electrical resistance and energy losses, which translates into a more stable welding arc. Standard welding cables have a cross-section of 25–50 mm², so the clamp provides a compatibility margin.

Crocodile-type mechanism

The crocodile-type clamping mechanism is based on a pressure spring that provides constant pressure of the contacts against the workpiece. This design allows quick attachment and removal without tools, which shortens the time needed to prepare the welding station.

Applications of the welding clamp

  • Securing the earth lead in transformer and inverter welding machines
  • Connecting the welding cable to steel structural components
  • MMA welding (stick electrode) at currents of up to 315 A
  • MIG/MAG welding in the earth circuit
  • TIG welding as an earth lead clamp
  • Welding work in metalworking and assembly workshops
  • Welding steel structures, gates and fences
  • Repairs of agricultural equipment and construction machinery

Use and maintenance

Attaching the clamp

Before starting welding, make sure that the surface of the workpiece is cleaned of rust, paint and contaminants. The clamp should be attached directly to the base metal, at a distance of no more than 1–2 metres from the welding point, in order to minimise electrical resistance in the circuit.

Checking the contacts

Regularly check the condition of the copper contacts in the jaws of the clamp. Oxidised or burnt contacts should be cleaned with sandpaper or a wire brush. Worn contacts reduce electrical conductivity and may cause instability of the welding arc.

Storage

Store the welding clamp in a dry place, protected from moisture and chemical vapours. After finishing work, check the condition of the cable insulation and the spring mechanism. Damaged insulation on the welding cable creates a risk of electric shock.
