Cross-Tip Concrete Drill Bit 16 x 460 mm SDS Plus X-Tip YATO YT-4221

Hammer drill bit with a four-cutter X-Tip head and twin flute for drilling into reinforced concrete, calcium silicate and clay brick. The 40Cr steel and YG-11C carbide construction ensures durability under intensive use in hard building materials.

Diameter16 mm
Overall length460 mm
Shank typeSDS Plus
Tip typeX-Tip (4 cutters)

Drill bit technical features

X-Tip head in YG-11C carbide

The four-cutter YG-11C tungsten carbide tip reduces the risk of slipping when starting to drill. The tip design maintains stability even on contact with reinforcing bars, which matters when working in structural concrete.

Twin flute for debris removal

Two flutes increase the surface area available for clearing concrete dust out of the hole. This prevents material from building up in the flutes, which reduces the risk of jamming and limits overheating during prolonged use.

40Cr steel body

40Cr chrome steel is resistant to thermal expansion, which prevents the drill bit from seizing in the SDS Plus chuck as it heats up. The material retains its mechanical properties across a wide range of working temperatures.

Sandblasted finish

Sandblasting the surface increases the roughness of the drill bit body, which improves heat dissipation and reduces friction in the hole. The matt surface also prevents concrete dust from clinging to it.

Applications for the SDS Plus cross-tip drill bit

  • Drilling into structural concrete reinforced with steel bars
  • Drilling fixing holes in concrete walls
  • Drilling into calcium silicate and aerated concrete
  • Work in solid and perforated clay bricks
  • Service routing holes for electrical cables
  • Installation of plumbing and sanitary services
  • Anchoring steel structures into concrete substrates
  • Work on ventilation and air conditioning installations

Tool compatibility

The SDS Plus shank is the standard fitting on rotary hammers up to 5 kg. The system allows rapid bit changes without the use of tools. The drill bit works with rotary hammers from leading power tool manufacturers fitted with an SDS Plus shank.

Use and maintenance

Before starting to drill, check that the bit is correctly seated in the SDS Plus chuck – a distinctive click confirms that it is locked in place. When working in reinforced concrete, hammer drilling mode is recommended; avoid chiselling mode, which can damage the tip on contact with reinforcement.

The 460 mm length allows holes with a working depth of approximately 400 mm to be drilled, which is sufficient for most fixing applications in construction. After use, clean concrete dust off the drill bit with a brush or compressed air, paying particular attention to the flutes and the SDS Plus shank.

YG-11C (tungsten cobalt carbide) belongs to the group of carbides with elevated wear resistance, which extends tip life when drilling materials of high hardness. Cooling the drill bit regularly during intensive work prevents the carbide from losing its cutting properties.
