A professional set of HSS high-speed steel extractors with a TiN coating, designed for removing damaged, broken or seized screws and studs. Each tool combines a drill bit and an extractor in a single double-ended design.
HSS (High Speed Steel) is a tool steel with elevated hardness and wear resistance. The titanium nitride (TiN) layer increases surface hardness to approx. 2400 HV, which translates into a longer tool life and the ability to work with difficult-to-machine materials, including hardened steel.
Each tool has two working ends: a drill bit for drilling into the damaged screw and a left-hand extractor for removing it. This eliminates the need for separate tools and speeds up the removal of broken fasteners.
The TiN coating acts as an anti-friction layer, reducing resistance forces during drilling and extraction. This effect is particularly important when working with seized screws, where high mechanical stresses occur and there is a risk of overheating the tool.
The set includes extractors suited to screws with diameters from 2 to 12 mm, covering most standard applications in automotive mechanics, the machine industry, and repairs of household appliances and power tools.

The process starts by drilling a hole in the centre of the damaged screw with the drill bit end. The tool is then reversed and the left-hand extractor removes the damaged element. Drilling should be carried out perpendicular to the surface, at a moderate rotational speed and with steady pressure. The use of a cutting fluid is recommended when working with high-hardness materials.
After use, the extractors should be cleaned of swarf and contamination, then protected with a thin layer of protective oil. The TiN coating is corrosion-resistant, but prolonged contact with moisture can lead to corrosion of the steel beneath the layer. The tools should be stored in a dry place, preferably in a dedicated organiser or tool case.
The extractor size is selected on the basis of the outer diameter of the damaged screw. The hole drilled with the drill bit should be approx. 1.5-2 times the screw diameter in depth. Drilling too shallow may result in the extractor breaking, while drilling too deep weakens the remaining part of the screw. For hardened screws, preheating the working area with a gas torch is recommended in order to reduce the hardness of the material.
