Technical features of the 1000 g engineer's hammer

Cold-forged head

The cold forging process increases the density of the steel structure, which translates into greater mechanical strength of the head. This method eliminates internal stresses in the material, reducing the risk of cracking during intensive use. The 1000 g weight provides sufficient impact energy for working with metal and wood.

Lacquered wooden handle

Wood naturally absorbs vibration, which reduces strain on the wrist during prolonged work. The lacquer coating protects the surface against moisture and dirt while making the tool easier to keep clean. The wooden handle provides a secure grip even under intensive use.

Head-to-handle joint security

A metal ring wedge mechanically locks the head onto the handle, eliminating the risk of it working loose. A metal ferrule protects the upper part of the handle against mechanical damage during striking. A rubber ring absorbs shock and further stabilises the joint between the components.

GS and DIN1041 certification

The GS mark (Geprüfte Sicherheit) confirms that safety testing has been carried out by an independent certification body. The DIN1041 standard specifies requirements for the geometry, material and strength of engineer's hammers. Compliance with these standards guarantees consistent parameters and safe use.

Applications of the 1000 g engineer's hammer

  • Forging and shaping metal components in a metalworking workshop
  • Driving and removing nails in joinery and carpentry work
  • Assembling and dismantling mechanical joints when repairing equipment
  • Breaking up concrete and stone elements during construction work
  • Straightening and fitting structural components
  • Setting dowels and fasteners in various materials
  • Maintenance and repair work in mechanical workshops
  • Forming sheet metal and metal profiles

Choosing the right hammer weight for the job

How to choose the right hammer weight

A 1000 g hammer is a universal solution for most workshop tasks. This weight is sufficient for effective metal shaping without excessive strain on the wrist. For precise work with thin sheet metal, hammers of 300–500 g are recommended, while heavy blacksmithing work calls for tools weighing 1500–2000 g. A greater weight means greater impact energy, but also increased strain on the joints during prolonged work.

Maintaining an engineer's hammer

Check regularly how securely the head is fitted to the handle. A loose head should be tightened immediately or the securing wedge replaced. After finishing work, remove dirt from the head surface with a dry cloth. Protect the wooden handle from prolonged contact with moisture, which can weaken the wood's structure. Store the hammer in a dry place, ideally hanging up, to avoid mechanical damage to the handle.

During use, avoid striking with the side faces of the head, which can lead to deformation and cracking. Do not use the hammer as a lever or to break up materials harder than the head steel. If scratches or cracks appear on the working face, the head should be ground smooth or the tool replaced.
