A flat file with a second cut, designed for working metals, steel, aluminium and other materials in the workshop, the fitting shop and during model-making. The 150 mm working length gives you control over the filing process while maintaining material removal rates.
A second cut has a medium tooth density (approximately 20–30 cuts per inch). It removes material at a moderate rate while producing a smoother surface than coarse files. Used for finishing work on non-ferrous and ferrous metals.
The flat working face allows even smoothing of flat surfaces, removal of burrs, edge correction and fitting of components. A flat file maintains steady contact with the workpiece across the full width of the tool.
The 150 mm length is a compromise between manoeuvrability and working surface. A file of this length is suitable for precision work in confined spaces and for working small and medium-sized parts. It gives you control over the pressure applied and the direction of the stroke.
The handle, made from three materials, combines a hard core with elastomer non-slip inserts. The design reduces vibration transmitted to the hand, improves grip security when working with oils and greases, and reduces fatigue during prolonged use.

Files are divided into coarse (bastard), medium (second cut) and fine (smooth). A bastard cut removes material quickly, leaving a rough surface. A second cut is a compromise between removal rate and smoothness of finish. A smooth cut is used for finishing work where surface quality is the priority. The choice depends on the stage of work and the accuracy required.
When filing, apply even pressure on the forward stroke and avoid dragging the file backwards under load. This motion blunts the teeth more quickly. The file should work on a clean surface – grease, paint or rust reduce cutting efficiency.
When you have finished working, clean the metal swarf from the file with a wire brush or a dedicated file brush. Swarf left behind clogs the spaces between the teeth and reduces the efficiency of the tool. Storing the file in a dry place prevents corrosion, which weakens the cutting edges.
Files should not come into contact with other metal tools in a drawer – contact can damage the cut. Periodically applying a thin film of oil protects against rust during longer storage.
