Features of the YATO YT-71153 tape measure
EC Class II steel blade
Accuracy class II as defined by the EN standard sets the maximum permissible measurement error. For a 5-metre blade this means a deviation of no more than ±1.1 mm, which provides the precision needed for most construction and finishing applications.
Dual blade locking system
The tape measure is fitted with two independent mechanisms: a temporary blade lock activated by a button in the base and a permanent lock operated by a slider on the housing. This makes one-handed measuring convenient and keeps the dimension fixed while the tool is carried.
ABS plastic housing
ABS is resistant to impact and abrasion while keeping the weight low. The housing protects the retracting mechanism from mechanical damage during on-site work and provides a secure grip while measurements are taken.
Nylon-coated blade protection
The lacquered steel blade is covered with a layer of nylon that resists moisture, abrasion and fading of the scale. The coating extends the service life of the tool in conditions of exposure to dust and moisture and with frequent extending and retracting of the blade.

Accuracy classes of tape measures
The EN ISO 3676 standard defines three accuracy classes of tape measures. Class II is the standard for most professional applications. Class I offers higher precision (for 5 m: ±0.7 mm) and is used for inspection measurements. Class III (for 5 m: ±1.5 mm) is sufficient for approximate measurements.
Use and maintenance
Before first use, check the condition of the blade and the retracting mechanism. Extend the blade smoothly during measuring and avoid sudden jerks. The end hook can be used for single-handed measuring by hooking it over the edge of the workpiece.
A blade width of 19 mm provides the stiffness needed to extend the tape roughly 2 metres without support. For longer measurements, support the blade or ask another person to assist.
After work, wipe the blade with a dry cloth to remove any remaining building dust. Do not retract a wet or dirty blade. Store in a dry place, protected from moisture and extreme temperatures. Periodically check the condition of the locking mechanism and the retracting spring.
Checking measurement accuracy
Accuracy can be verified by comparing the tape with a measuring standard or another tape measure of known accuracy. Carry out the check on a stable, flat surface at room temperature. Check several points along the blade, particularly the beginning and the end of the measuring range.
