Flat wood drill bit designed for boring holes in soft and hard wood. The flat blade design delivers fast drilling with minimal effort, while the central pilot point ensures accurate hole positioning.
The flat, wide cutting face removes material from the hole quickly. At large diameters, flat wood bits bore far faster than twist drills, which shortens the time needed for electrical or plumbing installations.
The sharp point at the tip of the bit ensures a precise start to drilling and stops the tool from slipping. This allows holes to be positioned accurately without pre-drilling a starting point.
Hex shanks stop the bit from turning in the drill chuck during use. This ensures a stable transfer of torque and eliminates slippage, which is particularly important at larger hole diameters.
The open flat design allows chips to be cleared efficiently from the hole while drilling. This reduces resistance and prevents the tool from overheating, which extends its service life and improves the quality of the finished hole.

Flat wood bits require lower speeds than twist drills. For a 30 mm diameter, the recommended speed is 500–800 rpm in soft wood and 300–500 rpm in hard wood. Speeds that are too high can cause overheating and scorch the wood.
When drilling right through a workpiece, it is advisable to drill until the pilot point breaks through, then turn the workpiece over and finish the hole from the other side. This prevents the wood from splintering at the exit of the hole and gives clean edges.
After use, clean the bit of any remaining wood and resin. Periodic sharpening of the cutting edges with a flat file restores the sharpness of the tool. Storing it in a dry place prevents corrosion of the steel surfaces.
