A mechanical foot-operated log splitter for splitting firewood without electricity. The tool uses the operator's leg force, eliminating the noise and dust typical of hydraulic and electric log splitters.
A splitting force of 12 kilonewtons (equivalent to 1.2 tonnes) generated by pressing the lever with your foot. The lever system multiplies the operator's force, making it possible to split hardwood without electricity or fossil fuels.
No petrol or electric motor means no noise above 50 dB and no airborne sawdust. This allows you to work in residential areas without disturbing the neighbours, including in the evening.
The jaw design holds logs from 6 to 18 cm in diameter securely. This range covers the typical dimensions of seasoned firewood from deciduous and coniferous trees.
A maximum log length of 43 cm matches the standard dimensions of firewood for domestic fireplaces and stoves. It allows logs to be split straight away without cutting them to length first.

The operator places a log in the jaws of the splitter and then presses the lever with their foot. The lever system transfers the force to the splitting wedge, which penetrates the wood along the grain. Once the log has been split, the lever returns to its starting position under spring or return-mechanism action.
Before starting work, check that the splitter is stable on level ground. The wood to be split should be free of nails, screws and other metal items that could damage the wedge. The optimum moisture content for splitting is 15-25% – material that is too wet requires more force, while wood that is too dry may crack in an uncontrolled way.
Regular maintenance involves lubricating the pivot points of the mechanism every 20 hours of operation and checking the sharpness of the splitting wedge. A blunt wedge should be sharpened with a file or replaced with a new one. At the end of the heating season, the splitter should be stored in a dry room protected from corrosion.
When using a foot-operated log splitter, wear safety boots with a hard toe cap and work gloves. The operator's hands must stay outside the travel path of the wedge – a minimum distance of 30 cm from the splitting point is recommended. Never hold the log by hand while pressing the lever.
