A tool designed for the precise cutting of plastic pipes. Hardened tool steel blades ensure durability, while the ratchet mechanism allows thicker materials to be cut with less effort.
Technical features
Hardened steel blades
The hardening process increases the surface hardness of the steel, which means the cutting edge stays sharp for longer. Mechanical polishing reduces friction during cutting and prevents plastic swarf from sticking.
Wide jaw design
The larger contact area with the pipe stabilises the material during cutting, which prevents distortion of the cross-section. Wider jaws spread the cutting force over a larger area, reducing the risk of crushing.
Ratchet mechanism
The ratchet system allows the cutting force to be built up gradually without having to maintain a full grip throughout. The user can apply several squeezes to cut a thicker pipe, which reduces hand fatigue.
Material compatibility
The cutter is suitable for cutting thermoplastic materials of varying hardness – from flexible PEX to the stiffer PP-R. The blade geometry delivers a clean cut with no need for further edge chamfering.

Types of plastic cut
PEX (cross-linked polyethylene)
A material used in drinking water and heating systems. It is characterised by flexibility and resistance to high temperatures (up to 95°C). The cutter delivers a clean cut without delaminating the cross-linked structure.
PP-R (random copolymer polypropylene)
A plastic used in heating and domestic water systems. Harder than PEX, it requires greater cutting force – the ratchet mechanism makes this easier. Operating temperature up to 70°C (95°C short-term).
PE-RT (polyethylene of raised temperature resistance)
An alternative to PEX, used in underfloor heating. Easier to work with than PP-R and does not require special tools for jointing. The cut should be square to the pipe axis.
PE (polyethylene)
A basic material for water and gas systems. Available in various density grades (PE80, PE100). The cutter handles most diameters used in domestic systems.
PB (polybutylene)
A highly flexible plastic used in heating systems. Less common than PEX or PP-R, it requires a precise cut due to its tendency to deform.
Use and maintenance
Before starting a cut, make sure the pipe diameter is within the cutter's capacity. The pipe should be positioned square to the blade axis – cutting at an angle results in an uneven cut and blunts the blade more quickly.
The ratchet mechanism requires progressive squeezing. Do not force the cut in a single movement with thicker pipes – it is better to apply 2-3 squeezes using the ratchet. Once the cut is complete, release the mechanism by moving the release lever.
The blades need periodic cleaning to remove plastic residue. Trapped particles of plastic can cause uneven cutting. A dry cloth is sufficient – do not use solvents, which may damage the protective coating on the steel.
Storing in a dry place prevents corrosion of the metal surfaces. The ratchet mechanism should be released – leaving it clamped for long periods can weaken the return spring.
