A tape measure with a double-sided scale that allows readings to be taken from either side of the blade. The housing is made from durable ABS plastic and features a thumb-operated blade lock and a robust end hook.
Printing the scale on both sides of the blade allows measurements to be read regardless of the position of the tape measure relative to the object being measured. This removes the need to turn the blade over during use, speeding up the measuring process, particularly in hard-to-reach places.
A width of 19 mm strikes a balance between blade rigidity and the compactness of the tool as a whole. A blade of this width holds a straight line over a distance of around 2–2.5 metres when measuring horizontally without additional support, which makes working single-handed easier.
ABS plastic is resistant to impact and abrasion, which translates into a durable tool on building sites. The material retains its mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, typical of both outdoor and indoor work.
The lock button is positioned ergonomically, allowing the blade to be stopped with one hand while measuring. The locking mechanism holds the blade in the extended position, so you can note down the measurement or transfer dimensions without having to hold the blade in place.

On double-sided tape measures, the scale is printed on both the top and the bottom surface of the blade. This allows readings to be taken without turning the blade over, which is particularly useful when measuring in tight spaces, overhead or in an awkward position. Both scales are synchronised, meaning that the zero point and the subsequent values correspond to each other on both sides of the blade.
Before measuring, check that the end hook is correctly fitted and does not have any play exceeding the permitted tolerance (typically around 0.5 mm). Some movement of the hook is normal and compensates for its thickness when taking internal and external measurements.
When using the tape measure, avoid letting the blade retract suddenly – the automatic rewind mechanism should be operated in a controlled manner. Holding the blade during the final stage of retraction prevents the hook from striking the housing, which can damage both the hook and the rewind mechanism.
Protect the blade from contact with sharp edges, which can scratch it or damage the scale. If the blade becomes dirty, it can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Solvents are not recommended, as they can damage the printed scale or affect the properties of the steel blade.
Storing the tape measure in a dry place, away from sources of moisture, prevents corrosion of the steel blade and the rewind mechanism. After working in damp or dusty conditions, it is worth extending the blade and allowing it to dry before putting it away.
