Drill bit made from HSS-CO M35 high-speed steel with 5% cobalt, designed for drilling in metals. Complies with DIN 338 and features a two-stage point ground at 125°.
The 5% cobalt content increases the hardness and heat resistance of the high-speed steel. The M35 designation denotes a specific alloy composition that retains its cutting properties at temperatures up to 600°C, allowing drilling into harder grades of steel without losing its edge.
Grinding the point at 125° in two stages creates an additional centring edge. As a result, the drill bit requires no prior centre punching – it centres itself at the drilling point, which shortens working time and improves precision.
Precision grinding of the helical flutes provides better chip evacuation from the hole and reduces friction during drilling. This translates into a lower working temperature and longer tool life.
The DIN 338 standard defines the drill bit's dimensions, tolerances and angles. The cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks, and the standardised geometry ensures repeatable hole dimensions.

Standard HSS high-speed steel performs well in soft metals and wood. The addition of cobalt (HSS-CO) increases hardness and temperature resistance, allowing drilling into harder steels at higher speeds. Cobalt drill bits stay sharp for longer, especially during intensive use.
Before drilling, check that the drill bit is correctly secured in the chuck – any play can cause runout and damage the cutting edges. During work, the use of coolant or cutting oil is recommended, particularly when drilling stainless steel – this lowers the temperature and extends tool life.
The rotational speed depends on the hardness of the material: for structural steel around 300-400 rpm at a diameter of 10 mm, for stainless steel 200-300 rpm. Excessively high speeds cause overheating and loss of edge hardness.
After use, clean the drill bit of chips and protect it from moisture – leaving chips behind can lead to corrosion of the flutes. Storing it in a dry place or in a dedicated case prevents mechanical damage.
