YATO YT-05346 Glow Plug Socket Set
A professional 18-piece tool set for removing and fitting glow plugs in diesel engines, including specialised PSG glow plugs with pressure sensors. Made from chrome vanadium steel and fitted with universal joint sockets for easier access to awkward spots in the engine bay.

Universal joint sockets
The universal joint allows work at an angle, making it much easier to reach glow plugs mounted deep in the engine bay. The set includes 3/8" sockets 72 mm long and 1/4" sockets 60 mm long in sizes 8, 9 and 10 mm, covering most common diesel engine applications.
Chrome vanadium steel (CrV)
CrV offers greater hardness and wear resistance than ordinary tool steel. The addition of vanadium improves fatigue strength, preventing the tools from cracking when working with seized glow plugs. The chrome-plated surface protects against corrosion in workshop conditions.
Working with PSG glow plugs with pressure sensors
The special 12 mm socket with a retaining ring is designed for working with PSG (Pressure Sensor Glow plug) glow plugs used in GM, Opel and VAG engines. The ring keeps the socket firmly seated and protects the delicate pressure sensor from damage when removing and fitting the plug.
Protective caps for electrical connectors
Five protective caps shield disconnected glow plug connectors from contamination and electrostatic discharge. This is particularly important with PSG glow plugs, where damage to the electronic pressure sensor can lead to incorrect readings in the vehicle's diagnostic system.

How to check compatibility with your vehicle
Before buying, verify the glow plug socket size in your vehicle's technical documentation. Standard glow plugs in most diesel engines use sizes 8-10 mm. PSG glow plugs with pressure sensors (typical of 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI VAG engines and Opel 1.3 CDTI and 1.7 CDTI engines) require a 12 mm socket with a retaining ring, which is included in the YT-05346 set.
Use and maintenance
Before working on glow plugs, wait at least 30 minutes after switching off the engine to avoid burns. Glow plugs reach temperatures exceeding 1000°C while the engine is running.
When removing glow plugs, apply the correct torque. Excessive force can strip the thread in the cylinder head or snap the plug, requiring costly repairs. Universal joint sockets allow precise control of the tightening force.
The split sockets in the set are used to safely remove plugs that have snapped off in the bore. The split design allows the remaining part of the plug to be gripped and unscrewed without the risk of further thread damage.
After use, clean the tools of contamination and protect them with a thin layer of protective oil. The universal joints require periodic lubrication to ensure smooth movement and a long service life for the mechanism.
Glow plug tightening torque
Typical glow plug tightening torque is 15-25 Nm depending on the engine model. PSG glow plugs with pressure sensors often require a lower torque (10-15 Nm) due to their sensitive electronics. Always check the vehicle manufacturer's specification before fitting.
