A complete heat shrink tubing kit in six of the most popular diameters, supplied in a practical compartmented box. The DRS tubing shrinks when heated, forming sealed electrical and mechanical insulation over cables and connectors.
The DRS designation (e.g. 2.5/1.25) indicates the diameter before and after shrinking. Tubing with a diameter of 2.5 mm shrinks to 1.25 mm when heated. The 2:1 ratio ensures a fit for cables of different cross-sections within a given size.
A rated voltage of 660V is the maximum voltage at which the tubing retains its insulating properties. This parameter matters in industrial and power installations. In domestic installations (230V) it provides a multiple safety margin.
An operating temperature of 125°C defines the maximum temperature for continuous use. The tubing retains its mechanical and insulating properties within this range. Shrinking is carried out by briefly heating to around 90-120°C.
Shrunk tubing forms a sealed protective layer that prevents moisture from reaching cables and connectors. It prevents copper oxidation, contact corrosion and short circuits in high-humidity environments.

The tubing diameter is selected on the basis of the cable cross-section or the thickness of the joint. Before shrinking, the tubing should slide freely onto the component and, after shrinking, fit tightly without play. For copper cables: 0.5-0.75 mm² – 1.5 mm tubing, 1-1.5 mm² – 2.5 mm tubing, 2.5 mm² – 4 mm tubing, 4 mm² – 6 mm tubing.
Shrinking is carried out with a hot air gun or a lighter, heating the tubing evenly around the cable. The shrinking temperature is around 90-120°C. The tubing shrinks in both diameter and, slightly, length. Once shrunk, it forms a permanent, irreversible bond.
Before fitting the tubing, clean the cable surface of grease and contaminants. The tubing is fitted before the joint is made and slid clear of the working area; once soldering or crimping is complete, slide it into position and shrink it.
The kit is supplied in a compartmented box, which makes it easy to sort and store the tubing by size. The tubing should be protected from prolonged sunlight and temperatures above 50°C, which can cause the material to shrink prematurely.
