YATO YT-04685 HEX Socket Adaptor Set — 1/4", 3/8", 1/2"
A set of three HEX adaptors that allow conversion between standard socket and ratchet drive sizes. Made from 40Cr chrome vanadium steel with a black oxide finish, they ensure tool compatibility in the mechanical workshop and during service work.
Features of the HEX socket adaptors
Versatile square drive connections
The set contains adaptors that allow conversion between three standard square drive sizes: 1/4" (6.35 mm), 3/8" (9.53 mm) and 1/2" (12.7 mm). This makes it possible to use sockets of one size with ratchets or wrenches of a different drive size, increasing flexibility when working with a tool set.
40Cr chrome vanadium steel
40Cr is a tool steel containing around 0.4% carbon together with additions of chromium and vanadium. It combines surface hardness with resistance to torsional loads. This steel is characterised by good wear resistance during intensive work with sockets and ratchets.
Black oxide protective layer
The black oxide process creates a dark layer of iron oxides on the surface, increasing corrosion resistance and improving the appearance of the tool. The oxide layer protects against moisture and the chemical agents present in a workshop environment, extending the service life of the adaptors.
Compatibility with drive systems
The adaptors fit standard ratchets, torque wrenches and impact and hand sockets. Square drive dimensions conforming to international standards ensure compatibility with tools from different manufacturers, which makes it easy to integrate them with existing workshop equipment.

Practical uses of conversion adaptors
Extending the functionality of a tool set
HEX adaptors allow 1/2" sockets to be used with a compact 1/4" ratchet in a confined space, or small 1/4" sockets to be used with a powerful 1/2" ratchet to increase torque. They also make it possible to use a torque wrench of one drive size with sockets of other sizes.
Checking compatibility
Before use, make sure the adaptor matches the square drive size of the tools. A 1/4" square measures 6.35 mm across the corners, 3/8" — 9.53 mm and 1/2" — 12.7 mm. The adaptor should be firmly seated in the ratchet recess and on the socket shank. Play in the connection can lead to damage to the corners of the squares when working under load.
Use and maintenance
When working with the adaptors, use personal protective equipment: work gloves and safety glasses. The adaptors should be cleaned of dirt regularly and lubricated with maintenance grease, particularly at the points of contact with sockets and ratchets.
Avoid overloading the adaptors with torque exceeding the capacity of the smaller of the connected components. The 1/4" adaptor should not be used with impact tools or for tightening joints that require a torque above 50 Nm. The 3/8" and 1/2" adaptors can be used for heavier work, but the condition of the square drives should be checked and work with damaged components avoided.
Storage in a dry place, away from moisture and aggressive chemicals, ensures long-lasting tool performance. Regular checks of the condition of the black oxide surface allow early detection of corrosion and timely maintenance.
