Twist drill bit for metal made from HSS M35 high-speed steel with a 5% cobalt content. Manufactured to DIN 338, with a round shank and a 125° two-stage ground point.
A 5% cobalt addition increases the hardness and heat resistance of the steel. The drill bit withstands temperatures of up to 600°C without losing its cutting properties, which extends tool life during intensive drilling of harder metals.
Special grinding of the point at 125° eliminates the need to centre-punch the surface beforehand. The drill bit self-centres at the drilling point, which speeds up work and improves the accuracy of the holes.
The precisely finished flutes ensure efficient chip clearance from the hole. This reduces the risk of the drill bit jamming and of the material overheating, particularly when drilling deep holes in structural steels.
Standardised dimensions and manufacturing tolerances guarantee repeatable holes and compatibility with drill chucks from all manufacturers. The round shank fits both keyless and keyed drill chucks.

HSS (High Speed Steel) is a high-speed steel capable of working at high temperatures. The M35 designation defines the chemical composition of the alloy in accordance with the AISI standard, in which 5% is cobalt. The cobalt addition increases hardness to 67-69 HRC and temper resistance, which allows harder materials to be drilled than with standard HSS drill bits.
When drilling hard metals, the use of a coolant or cutting oil is recommended, as this extends the life of the drill bit and improves the quality of the hole. The optimum rotational speed for a 2.5 mm diameter in structural steel is approximately 1,200-1,500 rpm. In stainless steels, reduce the speed by 30-40% and increase the feed.
After use, clean the drill bit of swarf and protect it from moisture. Regularly checking the sharpness of the cutting edges allows wear to be detected early. Cobalt drill bits can be re-sharpened while retaining the original 125° point angle.
