A set of twist drill bits made from HSS high-speed steel, designed for drilling holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The set comprises 10 drill bits with diameters from 1 to 10 mm, supplied in a plastic case that makes them easy to organise and transport.
High Speed Steel is an alloy containing tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium, which gives it a hardness of 62-65 HRC. This material retains its cutting properties at temperatures up to 600°C, which matters during intensive drilling without cooling.
The set contains drill bits with diameters of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 mm. This selection covers typical workshop needs – from drilling pilot holes to holes for M10 bolts and rivets.
The helical flutes with a standard helix angle clear swarf from the hole during drilling. The rake angle of the cutting edge is suited to machining metals of medium hardness – structural steels, aluminium, copper and brass.
The compartmented case protects the drill bits from damage and makes it easy to pick the right diameter quickly. Its compact form allows it to be stored in a tool drawer or a fitter's toolbox.

For structural steel, the recommended speeds are: 1 mm – 3000 rpm, 5 mm – 1200 rpm, 10 mm – 600 rpm. When drilling aluminium the speed can be increased by 50-100%. Adjust the feed according to the resistance of the material, avoiding excessive pressure that causes overheating.
When drilling steel, it is advisable to use a cooling and lubricating emulsion or machine oil. Aluminium can be drilled dry or with paraffin. Regular cooling extends the life of the cutting edge and improves hole quality.
HSS drill bits can be sharpened repeatedly on a bench grinder with an aluminium oxide wheel. Maintain a point angle of 118° and the symmetry of both cutting edges. After sharpening it is worth checking the balance of the drill bit – asymmetry causes runout and an oversized hole.
Store the drill bits in the supplied case, in a dry place. After use it is worth cleaning them of swarf and applying a thin layer of oil to protect against corrosion. Avoid letting the cutting edges come into contact with hard surfaces.
