A set of 170 high-speed steel (HSS) drill bits with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, manufactured to the DIN338 standard. The set covers sizes from 1.0 to 10.0 mm and is stored in a metal case with individual slots.
The TiN coating applied to the cutting edge reduces friction during drilling, limits heat build-up in the tool and extends its service life compared with uncoated drill bits. It is easily recognised by the golden colour of the surface.
HSS (high-speed steel) is an iron alloy containing tungsten, molybdenum and cobalt that retains its hardness at elevated working temperatures. It allows drilling at higher rotational speeds than carbon steel drill bits.
A 135° point angle (instead of the standard 118°) improves the drill bit's centring on the material surface — the bit does not slip at the point of entry, which removes the need for a centre punch or centre drill before the actual drilling operation.
DIN338 is the standard specifying the dimensions, tolerances and geometry of twist drill bits. Compliance with this standard guarantees interchangeability with other tools and drill chucks made to the same specification.

Drill bits in the 1.0–8.0 mm range (15 sizes) are supplied in quantities of 10 per size, giving 150 drill bits. Drill bits in the 8.5–10.0 mm range (4 sizes) are supplied in quantities of 5 — 20 drill bits in total. The larger number of pieces in the smaller sizes reflects the typical wear pattern, in which thinner drill bits need replacing more often.
The metal case with individual slots protects the cutting edges from mechanical damage during transport and storage. Each slot is marked with its size, which makes it easy to find the right drill bit quickly and to keep track of stock levels.
HSS-TiN drill bits should be used at an appropriate rotational speed — an excessively high working temperature shortens the life of the coating. When drilling hard steel, the use of a cutting fluid is recommended. The drill bits can be reconditioned by resharpening, although resharpening removes the TiN coating from the cutting edge area.
