Impact socket with a 1/2-inch drive, designed for use with pneumatic and electric impact wrenches. The 17 mm size suits the bolts and nuts found in automotive applications and steel structures.
Features of the 17 mm impact socket
CrMo SCM-440 chrome-molybdenum steel
An alloy with enhanced resistance to impact loads. The chromium and molybdenum content increases surface hardness while maintaining a flexible core, which prevents cracking under the cyclic loads generated by an impact wrench.
1/2-inch square drive
The standard used in pneumatic and electric tools of medium torque. Compatible with the impact wrenches, ratchets and adaptors found in most mechanical workshops.
17 mm socket size
A size that fits M10 bolts and the typical wheel nuts found on older passenger vehicles. Also used in hydraulic installations, steel structures and industrial machinery.
39 mm working length
A compact design that allows work in confined spaces, for example on wheels mounted close to the wheel arches. The shorter profile increases rigidity and reduces the risk of deformation under high tightening torque.

Tool compatibility
The socket is designed for use with 1/2" impact wrenches with a maximum torque of up to 1000 Nm. Before use, check that the drive on the wrench is fitted with a retaining ball or spring that prevents the socket from falling off during operation.
Materials and heat treatment
The socket is made from two grades of tool steel. SCM-440 chrome-molybdenum steel has a carbon content of 0.38-0.43%, which after hardening gives a hardness of 38-42 HRC. The addition of chromium (0.90-1.20%) and molybdenum (0.15-0.30%) increases hardenability and wear resistance.
CrV50BV30 chrome-vanadium steel contains vanadium, which forms a fine-grained structure with increased fatigue strength. The heat treatment involves hardening at 820-860°C and tempering, which eliminates internal stresses and prevents the material from becoming brittle.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check that the socket is correctly seated on the drive of the wrench. Play greater than 0.2 mm can damage the working edges. When tightening bolts to a specified torque, a torque wrench with an impact adaptor is recommended.
After use, clean the socket of any contamination and protect it with a thin film of oil. Storing it in a damp environment without corrosion protection leads to oxidation of the surface and deterioration of its mechanical properties. Check the condition of the hex socket regularly – worn edges can damage bolt heads.
