VOREL 2.5" Plastic Mitre Box (model 29318)
A mitre box is a tool that guides a hand saw when cutting materials at specific angles. The VOREL 29318 model, made from plastic, allows precise cutting of mouldings, profiles and flat components in wood, plastic and composite materials.
Technical characteristics of the mitre box
Saw guide system
The box has guide slots in the side walls that steady the saw during cutting. Guides are provided for three working angles and in two planes (horizontal and vertical), which allows cutting components of various cross-sections and orientations.
Plastic construction
The body is made from plastic, which makes it resistant to moisture and prevents corrosion. This material is lighter than metal, so the tool is easier to carry. Plastic does not blunt the saw blade if it accidentally comes into contact with the guide walls.
Working trough dimensions
The trough, measuring 65 mm in width and 60 mm in height, takes skirting boards, finishing trims and other components with standard cross-sections. The 250 mm length provides stable support for the material while cutting.
Four cutting angles
The available angles of 90°, 45° (left and right) and 22.5° (left and right) cover typical installation work. The 90° angle is used for square cuts, 45° for standard corners and 22.5° for octagonal corners or other non-standard joints.

How to check material compatibility
Before starting work, measure the cross-section of the component you intend to cut. The material must fit inside the 65 × 60 mm trough. For skirting boards, check that their height does not exceed 60 mm and their width does not exceed 65 mm. When cutting at 45°, the effective trough width is reduced, so materials with a full 65 mm cross-section may need to be set at a different angle.
Use and maintenance
Before cutting, place the box firmly on a level surface or secure it to a workbench. Press the material against the base and the back wall of the trough to prevent it from shifting during the cut. Guide the saw through the slots in the side walls, keeping the blade vertical.
When you have finished, remove sawdust and offcuts from the trough. The guide slots can be cleaned with a brush or compressed air. Plastic can be washed with water and detergent, then dried. Store the box in a dry place, away from heat sources that could deform the body.
Cutting accuracy
Cutting precision depends on the quality of the saw, the condition of its blade and your technique. A mitre box provides steady guidance, but it will not correct errors caused by a blunt blade or uneven pressure. Regular sharpening of the saw and guiding the blade evenly through the material give the best results.
