A connecting component used to mount drill chucks in machines. It allows a chuck with a B16 taper to be connected to a machine spindle fitted with a Morse 2 socket.
The MS2 external taper fits standard spindle sockets in bench and pillar drills. It provides centring and torque transmission without additional fastening components.
The B16 internal socket works with drill chucks fitted with the matching taper. The DIN 238 standard guarantees interchangeability between manufacturers.
Used in drills, lathes and milling machines as an adapter between the spindle and the chuck. It allows keyless or keyed chucks to be fitted.
The taper connection relies on a precisely matched surface fit. Removal is carried out by driving out the arbor with a drift or an ejector screw (depending on the machine tool design).

Before purchase, check the type of socket in the machine spindle (Morse 2) and the type of taper on the drill chuck you have (B16 to DIN 238). A mismatch in specifications will prevent correct fitting.
Fitting involves inserting the MS2 taper into the cleaned spindle socket and pressing it in by hand or with a light hammer tap through a wooden block. The self-holding taper retains the arbor without additional securing.
Removal requires the use of a drift inserted through the slot in the spindle or unscrewing the ejector screw (if the machine tool is fitted with one). Excessive force, which could damage the taper surfaces, must not be used.
The taper surfaces should be kept clean, with swarf and contamination removed after every removal. Before fitting, it is worth applying a thin film of machine oil, which will make later removal easier and prevent corrosion.
