How to check size compatibility
An 8 mm spanner size suits M5 nuts and bolt heads (5 mm thread diameter), while 10 mm suits M6. Before buying, check the markings on the bolt heads or measure the nut with a calliper. For hex-head bolts, the spanner size (across the flats) is always larger than the thread diameter.
Use and maintenance
Fit the offset ring spanner onto the nut so that all the surfaces of the ring are fully engaged. When tightening, apply force perpendicular to the axis of the spanner, avoiding angled pressure that could make the tool slip.
The offset design allows a "flip and reposition" technique – after tightening through the available angle, the spanner is turned over and refitted on the nut. Thanks to the 15° angle and the 12-point profile, the spanner can be advanced in 30° steps, which is particularly useful in tight spaces.
After use, clean the spanner of dirt and dry it. Carbon steel needs protection from moisture – store the tool in a dry place. With intensive use, periodically check the condition of the rings for deformation or cracks.
When to choose an offset spanner rather than a straight one
An offset ring spanner comes into its own wherever access to a fastener is restricted by adjacent parts, walls or housings. Typical situations include bolts positioned close to a flat surface, in recesses or between other components. If a standard straight spanner needs a full 60° turn and there is no room for it, the offset version solves the problem.
