The KD5217 petrol earth auger is a machine with a 52 cm³ two-stroke engine designed for mechanically drilling holes in the ground. It is ideal for installing fencing, setting posts, creating pad foundations, and for gardening and construction work carried out away from mains power.
The air-cooled 52 cm³ power unit delivers high torque at a relatively low weight. The two-stroke engine has a simple design, which makes servicing easier in the field. The recommended 1:25 fuel mixture (two-stroke oil to petrol) protects the cylinder and piston from excessive wear.
A maximum speed of 8000 rpm combined with 4.9 kW of power makes it possible to drill into a range of ground types — from light garden soil to hard, clay-heavy ground. The high rotational speed helps the auger cut through roots and compacted layers of subsoil.
The ergonomic frame with two handles allows the machine to be guided steadily by two operators, or held securely by a single operator when smaller augers are used. The safety cut-off switch (kill switch) automatically cuts the ignition if a handle is released unexpectedly, reducing the risk of injury.
The earth auger is designed to work with earth auger bits of various diameters — bits are typically available from a few centimetres up to several tens of centimetres. The choice of auger diameter depends on the intended application: narrower bits are ideal for fence posts, while wider ones suit pad foundations or tree planting. Auger bits are sold separately.

The two-stroke engine requires fuel in the form of a mixture of unleaded petrol and two-stroke engine oil at a ratio of 1:25 (40 ml of oil per 1 litre of petrol). Using the wrong ratio or neat petrol will quickly wear out or permanently damage the engine. A 1 L bottle is included to make measuring the components easier.
Before storing the machine for a longer period, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until any remaining mixture has been drawn out of the carburettor. Check the condition of the spark plug (TORCH BM6A) and clean the air filter regularly. After each use, clean soil and moisture off the auger head to prevent corrosion.
When drilling large-diameter holes or working in hard ground, two-person operation is recommended — each operator holds one handle. This gives better control over the drilling direction and reduces fatigue during prolonged work. With smaller augers and loose ground, single-person operation is possible.
