GEKO G02500 Compression Tester

A compression tester for petrol engines with an analogue gauge and a set of threaded adaptors. The device allows the condition of the cylinders to be assessed by measuring compression pressure.

Measuring range3-20 bar (50-300 PSI)
Gauge typeAnalogue with valve
Threaded adaptorsM14 and M18
Hose lengthapprox. 30 cm

Tester features

Gauge with valves

The non-return valve holds the maximum pressure reading, while the bleed valve allows quick resetting before the next measurement. This removes the need to unscrew the tester repeatedly.

Universal adaptors

Two threaded adaptors, M14 and M18, cover the majority of petrol engines. The quick-release coupling allows them to be changed without tools, which speeds up diagnosis of multi-cylinder engines.

Flexible measuring hose

The 30 cm rubber hose improves access to the spark plug holes in tight engine bays. It gives freedom of movement during measurement without the risk of damaging the connections.

Push-on connector

The rigid metal connector with a rubber seal allows measurement without screwing anything in. Useful for quick indicative tests, or where access prevents the adaptor from being fully screwed in.

Applications

  • Diagnosing the condition of cylinders and piston rings
  • Checking the sealing of inlet and exhaust valves
  • Assessing engine wear before buying a used vehicle
  • Locating a cylinder with low compression when the engine runs unevenly
  • Verifying the effectiveness of a repair after replacing a head gasket
  • Checking engine condition after a long period off the road
  • Measurements in garages and diagnostic centres

Use and maintenance

Preparation for measurement

Before testing, warm the engine up to operating temperature. Remove all spark plugs and disconnect the ignition coil or the injectors to prevent the engine from starting. The throttle should be fully open.

Carrying out the measurement

Screw the appropriate adaptor into the spark plug hole, or press the sealed connector into place. Crank the engine on the starter motor for 5-7 seconds until the gauge reading stabilises. The non-return valve will hold the maximum value. Note the result, press the bleed valve and move on to the next cylinder.

Interpreting the results

Correct compression pressure in a healthy petrol engine is typically 10-14 bar. Differences between cylinders should not exceed 1-2 bar. Low pressure may indicate worn piston rings or valves, or a damaged head gasket.

Once the measurements are complete, clean any deposits off the adaptors and check the seals for leaks. Store the tester in a dry place, protected against mechanical damage to the gauge.
