A pipe cutter with a quick-adjust mechanism, designed for cutting copper, aluminium and plastic pipe. The model is fitted with a bearing steel cutting wheel and a four-roller guide system that keeps the pipe steady during cutting.
Features of the YATO YT-2234 pipe cutter
Quick-adjust mechanism
The system brings the cutting wheel up to the pipe surface in a single movement, after which fine pressure is applied with the knob. This shortens set-up time and removes the need to readjust the wheel position repeatedly for different pipe diameters.
Bearing steel cutting wheel
Bearing steel has a hardness of 58-62 HRC, which translates into wear resistance and the ability to be resharpened several times. The material retains the geometry of the cutting edge even under intensive use, producing clean cuts free of burrs.
Four-roller guide system
Rotating rollers positioned around the circumference of the pipe keep it steady during cutting. This prevents thin-walled pipe from being crushed and keeps the cut square to the pipe axis, which matters for subsequent soldering or threaded joints.
Quick-release button
The mechanism retracts the cutting wheel immediately once the cut is complete, so the pipe can be taken out of the cutter straight away. This speeds up work when cutting many sections and reduces the risk of damaging the cutting edge through unnecessary friction against the material.

Use and maintenance of the pipe cutter
Preparation before use
Before first use, check that the cutting wheel is sharp and that the guide rollers turn freely. The cutting surfaces can be lightly oiled with machine oil. When changing to a different pipe diameter, unscrew the knob fully, bring the cutting wheel up to the pipe surface, then tighten the knob gradually on each turn of the tool around the pipe.
Cutting technique
Place the pipe between the cutting wheel and the guide rollers, bring the wheel up to the pipe using the quick-adjust mechanism, then rotate the cutter around the pipe, gradually tightening the knob. Excessive pressure on the first turn can deform thin-walled pipe. Once the cut is complete, the release button lets you take the pipe out immediately.
Cutting wheel maintenance
The bearing steel cutting wheel needs cleaning periodically to remove dirt and fragments of material. After cutting copper pipe, remove copper deposits with a soft brush. A blunt cutting wheel shows up as increased resistance when cutting and burrs forming on the pipe edge. The spare cutting wheel supplied with the tool lets you carry on working without stopping to buy spare parts.
