Use and size selection
How to choose the right R-clip
The diameter of the R-clip should match the diameter of the hole in the pin – one that is too thin may fall out, while one that is too thick will not pass through the hole. Choose the length so that, once fitted, the legs of the R-clip can be opened by around 30–45 degrees; this gives a secure hold without over-stressing the material.
Fitting the R-clip
Pass the R-clip through the hole in the pin so that its bent part (the loop) rests against the surface of the component being secured. Then spread the legs of the R-clip to the sides or bend them along the pin. Before fitting, check that the hole in the pin is free of debris and has no sharp edges that could damage the R-clip.
