YATO 1/4" x 50 mm PH1 Screwdriver Bits (2 pcs) – Model YT-78020

PH1 Phillips screwdriver bits in S2 steel, 50 mm long, designed for power screwdrivers and drill drivers with a 1/4" hex shank. The set contains 2 bits with a nickel-plated surface finish.

Tip typePhillips PH1
MaterialS2 steel
Length50 mm
Hardness58-60 HRC

Technical characteristics of PH1 Phillips bits

S2 steel with 58-60 HRC hardness

S2 steel (chrome-molybdenum tool steel) offers greater resistance to impact and abrasion than standard chrome-vanadium steel. A hardness of 58-60 HRC provides resistance to deformation under intensive use, extending the life of the bit by several times compared with cheaper alternatives.

PH1 Phillips tip for cross-head screws

The PH1 designation defines the tip size in the Phillips system – the second smallest in the standard classification (after PH0). It is used for screws with a diameter of 2.1-3.0 mm, commonly found in electronics, furniture and electrical installation work. The precisely machined profile minimises slipping and damage to screw heads.

50 mm length for greater reach

The 50 mm length allows work in deeper holes and hard-to-reach places where standard 25 mm bits are not sufficient. It retains stability and control during driving, which is particularly important for precision assembly work.

Nickel-plated surface finish

The nickel layer protects the steel against corrosion, extending the life of the bit in damp conditions. The smooth surface makes it easier to clean off dust and dirt, and reduces friction when fitting the bit onto the holder.

Applications of PH1 Phillips bits

  • Furniture assembly – joining chipboard and MDF components
  • Electrical installations – fitting sockets, switches and back boxes
  • Plasterboard installation – driving screws into aluminium profiles
  • Electronics servicing – repair of computers, household appliances and consumer electronics
  • Carpentry work – fitting hinges, handles and furniture fittings
  • Plumbing and drainage installations – securing sanitary fittings and brackets
  • Lighting installation – fitting light fixtures, lamps and lighting systems
  • Renovation work – universal use across a variety of building tasks

Compatibility with power tools

The 1/4" (6.3 mm) hex shank is the standard used in most cordless screwdrivers and drill drivers, as well as in magnetic bit holders. Before buying, it is worth checking the type of chuck on your tool – with impact drivers, bits with an additional torsion ring are recommended.

Identifying the Phillips tip size

The Phillips system uses the symbols PH0, PH1, PH2 and PH3. The PH1 size corresponds to screws with a diameter of 2.1-3.0 mm. To check the correct size: the tip should fit into the screw head without play, filling the full depth of the recess. A bit that is too small will slip, while one that is too large will not go in deep enough.

Use and maintenance

The life of the bits depends on correct use. Excessive pressure should be avoided when driving screws – too much force can deform the tip. When working with a power screwdriver, it is advisable to set an appropriate torque to suit the hardness of the material.

After use, it is worth cleaning the bit of dust and swarf. If working in damp conditions or in contact with corrosive materials, the bit should be wiped with a dry cloth. Storing it in a dry place, in a bit organiser or tool case, prevents mechanical damage.

A worn bit can be recognised by the rounded edges of the tip, which cause it to slip out of the screw. In this case, the bit should be replaced with a new one – continued use leads to damage to screw heads and makes removal more difficult.
