SDS Plus Chisel 40/400mm GEKO G40018

Flat chisel with an SDS Plus shank, designed for use with rotary hammers and hammer drills. A working width of 40 mm and an overall length of 400 mm allow efficient chiselling in concrete, masonry and stone.

Technical features

SDS Plus shank

The SDS Plus mounting system ensures compatibility with most rotary hammers and hammer drills from brands such as Bosch, Makita, DeWalt and Hitachi. The mechanism allows quick tool changes without any additional tools – simply insert the chisel and twist it to lock.

Working dimensions 40×400 mm

The 40 mm width is a compromise between working area and precision – wide enough to remove material efficiently while keeping the tool under control. The 400 mm length allows work in deeper holes and grooves without having to bring the tool too close to the surface.

Tool steel

The chisel is made from tool steel with increased hardness, which translates into resistance to wear when working with abrasive materials. The hardened working edge keeps its sharpness even after prolonged use in concrete or clinker brick.

Versatile use

The flat chisel design allows both surface chiselling (e.g. removing plaster or tiles) and cutting installation channels. The width is suitable for work in expansion joints and for correcting mounting holes.

Tool compatibility

Compatibility check

The SDS Plus system is a standard developed by Bosch and is now used by all major power tool manufacturers. Before buying, check that your rotary hammer or drill has an SDS Plus chuck (10 mm diameter, four grooves). It should not be confused with the SDS Max system (18 mm, larger grooves) used on heavier demolition hammers, or with a standard drill chuck with a jaw clamp.

Use and maintenance

Before starting work, check that the chisel is correctly seated in the chuck – a click from the locking mechanism should be heard once it is inserted. A loose fit can damage the SDS grooves and the tool holder.

When chiselling, it is recommended to hold the chisel at an angle of 30-45 degrees to the surface, which increases the efficiency of material removal and reduces the load on the working edge. Working perpendicular to the surface blunts the cutting edge more quickly.

After finishing work, clean the chisel of dust and material residue. The SDS grooves should be greased periodically with graphite or silicone grease – this prevents corrosion and makes tool changes easier. Do not use engine oil, which can get into the hammer mechanism.

Re-sharpening the working edge

A blunt chisel can be sharpened with an angle grinder fitted with a metal grinding disc. Keep the original cutting angle (around 30-35 degrees) and avoid overheating the material – excessive temperature destroys the temper of the steel. After grinding, cool the chisel in water.
