Shank-mounted flap wheel with a 6 mm shank, designed for fitting to drills and die grinders. The abrasive cloth flap construction with P40 grit removes material efficiently from metal, wood and plastics.
Technical features of the shank-mounted flap wheel
P40 grit — applications
P40 is a coarse-grade abrasive. It removes material quickly, making it suitable for stripping rust and old paint coatings, as well as for initial surface levelling before further sanding with finer grits.
Flap construction
Abrasive cloth flaps mounted radially on a steel shank give the wheel flexibility in use. This design allows it to follow irregular shapes and edges while maintaining sanding performance.
6 mm shank — compatibility
A 6 mm shank diameter is a standard fit for drills and die grinders. Before mounting, check the chuck's clamping range on your tool — most keyless drills and die grinders accept shanks from 3 to 8 mm.

An 80 mm diameter and 40 mm flap height strike a balance between working area and the ability to work in moderately confined spaces. These dimensions perform well when sanding both flat and lightly profiled surfaces.

Applications of the P40 flap wheel

Choosing the grit for each stage
P40 is the initial stage. Once the material has been removed with the P40 wheel, move on to P80–P120 grits to smooth the surface, then P180–P240 for finishing. Skipping stages can leave visible scratches on the final surface.
Use and maintenance
Before starting work, check that the shank is held securely in the tool chuck. Any play can cause wheel runout and uneven sanding. The recommended speed depends on the material being sanded — 2000–3000 rpm for metal and 1500–2500 rpm for wood. Excessive speed overheats the material and wears the wheel out faster.
Apply even, moderate pressure while working. Excessive pressure shortens tool life and can cause the abrasive grit to clog. When sanding metal, take breaks every few minutes to let the wheel and the workpiece cool.
Personal protective equipment
Working with a flap wheel produces dust and fine particles of material. Safety glasses, a dust mask and work gloves are mandatory. When sanding metal, hearing protection is also recommended because of the noise level produced by the tool.
