Smoke Leak Detector KD3523
The KD3523 is a diagnostic tool for locating leaks in vehicle systems. Smoke testing works by forcing smoke-laden air into the system being tested — smoke escaping at the leak point pinpoints the exact location of the leak without having to dismantle components. The unit is powered directly from the vehicle's electrical system (12V DC), which removes the need to connect an external compressor or any other power source.
Key features
Built-in air pump
The integrated pump removes the need for an external workshop compressor. The unit is complete and ready to use on the move — at the vehicle, with no access to a compressed air line.
Pressure gauge
The built-in gauge gives a live pressure reading in the system being tested. A drop in the gauge reading once the system is sealed indicates a leak, even before smoke becomes visible anywhere.
12V power from the vehicle's electrical system
Connects via a standard power lead directly to the vehicle battery or cigarette lighter socket. The voltage range matches automotive electrical systems, so the unit runs without additional power supplies or inverters.

Applications
The KD3523 smoke machine is designed for leak diagnosis in the systems of cars and motorcycles. Smoke testing is particularly effective where leaks are hard to spot visually or where the fault cannot be accessed without partial dismantling.
- EVAP system (fuel vapour control) — required for diagnosing OBD fault codes relating to leaks
- Intake system — detecting leaks between the air filter and the cylinder head that affect the air-fuel mixture
- Exhaust system — locating cracks and leaking joints in the manifold, catalytic converter and silencer
- Fuel system — leak-testing lines and connections at operating pressure
- Cooling system — detecting micro-cracks and leaking joints without having to warm the system up

Use and maintenance
The 30 ml oil reservoir should be filled with mineral oil intended for smoke machines or machine oil — do not use synthetic or aromatic oils, which can damage seals or leave deposits in the system being tested. Before each use, check that the hose-to-adapter connections are airtight and make sure the system being tested is disconnected from the power supply and is not hot.
After use, blow clean air through the hose to remove any remaining oil. Protect the pressure gauge from moisture and impact. Store the unit in a dry place with the oil reservoir empty or sealed.
