Smoke Leak Detector KD3522
The KD3522 is a smoke diagnostic device powered at 12V from the vehicle's electrical system, designed to locate leaks in closed pipe systems. A built-in air pump generates smoke from mineral oil and forces it into the system under test — smoke escaping at the point of the leak allows the exact location to be pinpointed without dismantling any components.
Key features
Built-in air pump
The unit requires no external compressor or compressed air supply. The built-in pump drives the entire smoke generation system — simply connect it to the vehicle battery using the supplied leads with clamps. This simplifies preparation for diagnostics and allows work in any workshop conditions.
12V power from the vehicle's electrical system
Drawing power directly from the car battery removes the need for additional power supplies or extension leads. It allows diagnostics both in the workshop and on site, for example when inspecting a vehicle after a breakdown away from the workshop.
18 l/min smoke flow
An output flow of 18 l/min quickly fills even extensive systems with smoke, such as a complete intake system or an EVAP system. This shortens the wait for smoke to appear at the leak and speeds up the entire diagnostic process.
Compact design and complete accessory set

Applications
The KD3522 smoke leak detector is used to locate leaks in the closed pipe systems of combustion-engined vehicles. The smoke method is particularly useful where leaks are too small to be seen with the naked eye, or where the leak is in a hard-to-reach place.
- EVAP system diagnostics (fuel vapour emission control) — required by OBD systems for fault codes P0440–P0457
- Detecting intake air leaks (unmetered air affects the air-fuel mixture and engine running)
- Checking the exhaust system for leaks upstream of the catalytic converter and lambda sensors
- Locating leaks in the fuel system (hoses, connectors, gaskets)
- Checking the cooling system for leaks (hoses, rubber connectors, radiator)
- Diagnosing vacuum lines and hoses (brake servo, EGR valves, regulators)
- Leak testing systems on motorcycles and quad bikes
- Verifying the sealing of air conditioning systems (air ducts)
Use and maintenance
The 30 ml oil reservoir should be filled with mineral oil intended for smoke generators (do not use engine oils or synthetic fluids, which may leave deposits in the vehicle's system). Before connecting to the system under test, make sure the engine is switched off and the system is cold or at operating temperature — depending on the system being tested and the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.
