A ceramic tile grouting float fitted with a high-density SMPX sponge. The tool is designed for professional filling of joints and for cleaning tile surfaces after the grout has been applied.
The SMPX material has a higher density than standard polyurethane sponges. The higher density gives better water absorption and more effective removal of excess grout from tile surfaces, without the risk of washing material out of the joints.
The open-cell structure of the sponge allows water to drain away efficiently when it is squeezed over rollers or in a bucket. As a result, the sponge returns to its optimum working moisture level more quickly, which speeds up grouting over large areas.
The rigid backing plate provides stability during use and distributes pressure evenly over the whole surface of the sponge. Securely fixing the sponge to the base extends the working life of the tool and prevents the parts coming loose during intensive use.
A thickness of 40 mm is a compromise between water capacity and working ergonomics. This sponge thickness allows the surface to be wiped several times without frequent rinsing, while maintaining a comfortable grip and control over the tool.

Before first use, wet the sponge thoroughly with water and squeeze it out several times. This removes any manufacturing contamination and prepares the sponge structure to absorb water. During grouting the sponge should be damp, not wet – excess water washes grout out of the joints.
The float is moved across the tiles at a diagonal to the direction of the joints, which prevents the grout from being accidentally washed out. After every 3–5 square metres, rinse the sponge in clean water and squeeze it out. The water in the bucket should be changed once it becomes cloudy.
After finishing work, rinse the float thoroughly under running water, removing all traces of grout. Squeeze out the sponge and leave it to dry in a well-ventilated place. Storing it in a damp environment can lead to mould growth and shorten the working life of the tool.
