Spline socket with a 1/2" drive and a 16 mm size, designed for work with spline fasteners. Made from chrome vanadium steel with a chrome-plated finish for corrosion protection.
The spline system uses 12 splines instead of the standard six points. This increases the contact area with the fastener by around 30%, allowing higher torque to be transmitted with less risk of damaging the edges of the bolt or nut. This profile is particularly effective when undoing seized or corroded fasteners.
The steel alloy with added chromium and vanadium combines hardness with resistance to cracking. Chromium increases wear and corrosion resistance, while vanadium improves mechanical strength. The material retains its working properties even under intensive use in workshop conditions.
The socket works with 1/2" drive torque wrenches, ratchets and extension bars. This drive size is the standard for mechanical work requiring tightening torques in the 40-200 Nm range, typical of running gear, suspension and engine components.
A chrome coating several micrometres thick forms a protective barrier against moisture and chemicals. Chrome plating increases surface hardness, makes it easier to clean off oil contamination and provides resistance to mechanical damage during everyday use.

Before use, check the profile type of the fastener. Spline bolts and nuts feature 12 distinctive splines, either internal or external, unlike standard hexagon heads (six points) or Torx (star-shaped) profiles. The 16 mm size denotes the diameter of the circle circumscribed around the splines.
Spline sockets should be used with 1/2" drive torque wrenches or ratchets. While working, make sure the socket is fully seated on the fastener - an incomplete fit can damage the splines. After each use in conditions involving exposure to moisture or chemicals, clean the socket and protect it with a thin layer of protective oil.
Storing in organiser sets or on magnetic rails prevents mechanical damage to the chrome-plated surface. Do not use spline sockets on fasteners with other profiles - this can damage both the tool and the fastener.
