A rivet nut is a fastener installed by riveting that creates a durable thread in thin sheet metal and in materials where conventional threading is not possible. The set contains 20 steel M6 rivet nuts with a knurled cylindrical flange.

Installing rivet nuts
Installing a rivet nut requires a manual or pneumatic rivet nut setter and a suitable setting mandrel. The process involves drilling a hole sized to match the rivet nut's body diameter, inserting the insert from the front and compressing it with the setter. As it is tightened, the mandrel deforms the rivet nut's body, forming an expansion on the far side of the material that secures the joint against pull-out.
Choosing the hole diameter
Before installation, check the manufacturer's technical documentation for the hole diameter required for the specific type of M6 rivet nut. A hole that is too small will prevent the body from expanding correctly, while one that is too large will weaken the joint. The typical hole diameter for M6 rivet nuts is 8-9 mm.
Installation parameters
The thickness of the base material is crucial to how well a rivet nut performs. Each type of rivet nut is designed for a specific range of sheet thicknesses. Material that is too thin will not provide sufficient support, while material that is too thick will prevent the body from expanding correctly during installation.
The minimum distance from the edge of the material should be at least 3 times the hole diameter to prevent the material from cracking or deforming during installation. The minimum distance between rivet nuts is usually 4 times the hole diameter.
