A set of 18 specialist sockets designed for fitting and removing oil sump drain plugs. A workshop tool with a 3/8" drive, made from CrV 50BV30 chrome vanadium steel.
The set contains sockets in four profile types: square, hex (HEX), triangular and 12-point. The variety of shapes ensures compatibility with most types of sump plug used on cars, vans and motorcycles of various makes.
The CrV 50BV30 material offers increased hardness and resistance to mechanical wear. The chromium-vanadium alloy improves torsional strength and corrosion resistance, which extends tool life in workshop conditions.
The sockets have a standard 3/8" (9.5 mm) square drive and work with ratchets, speed braces and extensions of the same size. The 3/8" format is a common standard for medium-sized mechanical tools.
The sockets are kept in a dedicated case with recesses shaped to each item. Keeping the tools organised in the case prevents them from being mislaid, makes it easier to identify the right size and protects them from moisture and mechanical damage during transport.

Before starting work, check the profile of the sump plug and select a socket of the same shape. A socket that does not fit may damage the edges of the plug, making it harder to remove later. Trial-fit the socket without applying force.
Sump plugs have to be tightened to a specified torque, usually in the range of 20-30 Nm depending on the vehicle model. Too much torque can damage the threads in the sump, while too little leads to oil leaks. The use of a torque wrench is recommended.
After each use, clean the sockets of oil and dirt and then dry them. Storing them in the original case protects the tools from corrosion and damage. Periodic lubrication of the socket surfaces with protective oil extends their service life.
