A professional tool set for servicing plastic oil sump plugs in the sumps of passenger vehicles. It contains 8 socket bits compatible with the most popular car brands, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Ford and Dodge.
The 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) size is the standard square drive used in workshop tools. A T-handle gives better torque control than a conventional ratchet, which protects fragile plastic sump plugs from damage when they are removed and refitted.
CrV steel offers increased hardness and resistance to mechanical wear. The addition of vanadium improves shear strength, which matters when working with seized plugs. Chrome plating provides corrosion protection in a workshop environment.
The bits have an external hex drive so that they can be tightened with a torque wrench, allowing the recommended plug tightening torque to be maintained. The internal square drive fits standard 3/8" ratchets.
The set includes profiles that fit the plastic sump plugs used in popular German, American and European models. This removes the need for universal keys, which can round off the edges of a plastic plug.

Plastic oil sump plugs, used particularly on premium vehicles, have precisely defined profiles designed to prevent removal with standard tools. Using the wrong key rounds off the edges, which makes it impossible to remove the plug later without damaging the sump. The dedicated bits provide a full fit on the plug profile.
Before use, identify the type of sump plug on the vehicle and select the matching bit from the set. Undo the plug slowly, controlling the force applied, so as not to damage the thread in the aluminium sump. After changing the oil, tighten the plug by hand until it seats, then tighten it to the torque recommended by the vehicle manufacturer (usually 25-30 Nm).
After use, clean any residual oil off the bits and protect them from moisture. Regular cleaning prevents dirt from building up in the bit profiles, which could lead to an incomplete fit on the plug. CrV steel needs periodic protection with an anti-corrosion agent, particularly in high-humidity conditions.
Before buying, it is worth checking the type of sump plug in the vehicle's service documentation or by visually inspecting the sump. Some models may use different plug types depending on the year of manufacture. If in doubt, consult an authorised dealer or check the plug profile before changing the oil.
